Start by analyzing your own domain. In the Enter Your Domain search box, write your domain name.
It will give you, your domain overview.
You will get the information like: Authority Score, Organic Traffic Search, Backlinks etc.
Click on Traffic Analytics in the Left Side Bar. It will give you al the information related to your website’s traffic.
This will help you make new goals and improve your search results.
Clicking on Organic Research, you will get to know the keywords you are ranking for on search engines.
It displays information related to the keywords that generates traffic on your site organically.
For instance, in the image below you can see that semrush.com gets organic traffic from 113.7K keywords.
The amount of traffic is 264.3K and the value of this traffic is $1.1M.
When you click on Keyword Gap, you will be able to see 4 fields, that says add your competitors.
Thus, this tool helps you track down the keywords that your competitor is ranking for.
You can use these keywords and can make a better blog to rank higher.
This tool not only helps the established bloggers to give cut throat competition to their competitor but also helps newbie bloggers to get further direction for their blog.
If you get the trick of using this tool to your advantage, you are sure to have the ball in your court in the near future.
Now, click on Backlink Gap. Backlink Gap displays information about the backlinks of the site, meaning, it tells, which site is referring to semrush site.
One of the quickest ways to rank high on SERP is to gain high-quality backlinks.
Using Backlink Gap, you can analyze yours as well as your competitor’s backlinks.
Hence, you can get an idea where you lack behind your competitor and where you are ahead.
In Keyword Search section, you can do the following activities:
- Keyword Overview
- Use The Keyword Magic Tool
- Keyword Manager
- Position Tracking
- Organic Traffic Insights
When you click on the “Keyword Overview“, you will be able to see the information about certain keywords.
This will not essentially tell you the amount of traffic that particular keyword is generating for you.
But it will tell the value of that keyword.
In the image below, the keyword is “semrush”, thus, you are able to see all the information related to this particular keyword. The average search volume for keyword “semrush” in US is 720.
Likewise, Globally, the average search volume is 2.5K. It also displays the CPC of the keyword “Semrush”, which is $8.04.
What CPC means is, the amount of money that an advertiser pays for a click on an ad triggered by search analyzer.
Therefore, you can imagine the value of this keyword.
It also speaks of the keyword difficulty, that is, how hard it is to rank for keyword “semrush”.
The tool also displays the keyword variations, that is, what are the queries that include the keyword “semrush”, so that you can use it to your advantage.
The queries are also in the form of questions.
In the image below, in the Question section, you can see that the question “what is semrush com” is searched 50 times monthly.
If you include the question “What is semrush com” in your article and rank high for it, you are sure to get a lot of traffic.
Keyword Magic Tool
Moving forward, you can also find the keywords related to your topic/niche/brand.
How to find?
Click on the next tab, i.e, Keyword Magic Tool.
Put in the word relevant to your article/brand in the search box.
It will display keywords related to your niche and help you rank higher.
These terms can be incorporated in your article to rank it on 1st page of Google.
Moreover, it also lets you know the difficulty level of each keyword. You can choose a keyword with less difficulty to rank your article easily.
With Position Tracking, you can track the position of your website for certain keywords.
Once you enter the domain in Position Tracking tool, a dialogue box will open. It will ask you to make a positioning campaign.
You need to fill information like the kind of device you are finding position for, the location, list of keywords you want to track the position for and so on.
In the result, you can see the Average Position, Estimated Traffic and Visibility for the chosen keywords. Average Position is the ranking for all keywords in Your Position Tracking Campaign.

No doubt, Semrush is the most expensive keyword research tool out there.
But, hey, it gives you a lot of analytical data to not to choose it.
From content analysis to website monetization, there is nothing this tool does not do.
If you go for any other tool, you are sure to be devoid of some or the other functionality.

This tool is definitely not for people who quit easily on businesses and passion.
